Academy of Business, Leadership & Entrepreneurship (ABLE)
Students experience a comprehensive selection of business-related courses, including an introduction to business, entrepreneurship, marketing, multi-media, and accounting. They work with other students in a study team under the direction of a business-certified teacher to further develop their business skills and interests.
Students have the opportunity to travel regionally and nationally to attend conferences and competitions, such as DECA, Shark Tank and Dolphin Tank competitions, Titan Challenge, and more. Students also make presentations to various community partners in business, as well as in education. Students gain hands-on entrepreneurial experience in marketing, accounting, and sales through the running of a school store. Students are connected with the business community through interactions with professionals during job shadows, field trips, and having guest speakers visit the school and the business classes.
PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE
Students are prepared to further their business education in a wide range of careers, including finance, banking, accounting, fashion merchandising, human resources, customer service, and more. Entrepreneurship, marketing, and accounting are the cornerstones of this program. Students visit business worksites and job places on field trips to become acquainted with what professional environments look like. Students also meet monthly with community professionals in small group mentor sessions to better understand the business world and its opportunities. They may also have the opportunity to complete an internship with top local companies.
ABLE students routinely volunteer and provide services at community and school events, such as helping out at the GR Drive games, ICHS Family Night events, and events at other schools, and by running a canned food drive annually.
