On Monday, April 8, 2019 at 6:00 PM, the Grand Rapids Board of Education will hold the second round of interviews to fill the position of Superintendent. The candidates’ names, bios, and interview times are as follows:

6:00 PM - Devon Horton Ed.D.: Chief of Schools for Jefferson County Public Schools in Kentucky since 2018. Previously, he was Deputy Superintendent for the East St. Louis School District 189 in Illinois for four years. Horton also served as Principal for three years, Assistant Principal for one year, and taught in the classroom for 10 years in Chicago Public Schools. He has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Jackson State University, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Chicago State University, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Chicago State University.

7:30 PM – Adrian Talley, Ed.D.: Director of Community Schools for Prince George’s County Public Schools in Maryland since 2018. Previously, he served as Executive Director for Student Services in the same district for three years. Talley also served as Principal Deputy Director and Associate Director of Education for the Department of Defense Education Agency for three years. He worked as Associate Superintendent for one year, Community Superintendent for five years, Director of School Performance for one year, and Principal for three years for Montgomery County Schools. He taught in the classroom for 12 years in Virginia and Maryland. He has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from University of Virginia, Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Boston College, and Doctor of Education in Education Administration and Policy Study from George Washington University.

Interviews will take place at the Franklin Campus Auditorium and are open to the public. Live stream will be available for those who are unable to attend, and feedback forms for the candidates will be available both in person and digitally. The Board of Education welcomes community input on each candidate.
