The Kent ISD COVID-19 School Dashboard provides parents, educators and the general public transparency on school-associated COVID-19 cases in local public and nonpublic schools throughout Kent County. Numbers are updated daily through a partnership with the Kent County Health Department.
Students at C.A. Frost are outside nearly every day. By exposing students to the mysteries and wonders of nature, they encourage their student's natural curiosity and motivation to learn. All students participate in an environmental lab class, better known as “e-lab”, twice a week in grades K-5. E-lab is project-based and helps students become independent problem solvers who care for our planet.
Fourth and Fifth-grade students have the opportunity to participate in LEGO Robotics.
OUTDOOR LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Day Trips: Students in every grade take exciting field trips to help them connect their learning to the real world. Examples of these trips include visiting a recycling center, team building at Camp Roger, stream studies, and visiting parks including Millennium Park and Kirk Park.
Overnight Camping: Grades 2-5 participate in overnight camping experiences. Students begin with trips close to home at places like Blandford Nature Center and grow to participate in overnights at Camp Rodger, Camp Henry, and Muskegon State Park.
The staff at C.A. Frost incorporate environmental science into all subject areas, including reading, math, social studies, language arts, and more. Examples of projects with an environmental science focus include creating new animal habitats, developing a field guide to trees.
C.A. Frost Elementary is located adjacent to Blandford Nature Center. Blandford has 143 acres of woods, meadows, and streams for students to explore. C.A. Frost also has a greenhouse on-site, which students use for various projects and during e-lab. Finally, the grounds at C.A. Frost have been carefully planned and planted by students and staff to attract wildlife, reduce runoff, and support the school’s mission.
