Updated Guidance for Summer School and the 2021-2022 School Year
School-Based Staff and All Students: For the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year and 2021 summer school, universal masking, completion of a daily health screener, and 3 feet social distancing are required in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and KCHD guidance. Masks are not required outdoors for students or staff. This is subject to change if the CDC and/or the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) update their guidance this summer which is expected to happen in the coming weeks.
Non-School-Based Staff: From now until June 30, we require universal masking, completion of a daily health screener, and 3 feet social distancing. As of July 1, in accordance with the latest state epidemic order, there are no indoor or outdoor restrictions for fully vaccinated individuals. Vaccinated staff may resume work activities in-person as they did pre-COVID with no masks and no social distancing starting on July 12. Unvaccinated staff are encouraged to get vaccinated and continue universal masking until they are fully vaccinated. The district will not be requiring proof of vaccination status. If a non-school-based employee needs to interact with a student, they are required to wear a mask because the student may not be fully vaccinated.
Plans for 2021-2022 School Year: We continue to plan for all schools to be 100% in-person, five days a week, for the 2021-2022 school year. As with everything related to COVID-19, these plans are subject to change. No final decisions have been made on COVID-19 mitigation measures pending further guidance and direction from the Kent County Health Department.
We are also planning to offer limited 100% virtual school options for students with extenuating circumstances due to documented medical conditions. If you wish to request a 100% virtual option for the 2021-2022 school year, please complete the following survey: https://www.grps.org/survey.
