The Grand Rapids Public Schools announced today that Zoo School was named among the top 25 "Coolest Schools in America" by Scholastic "Parent & Child Magazine". Published in the August/September print version of the "Parent & Child Magazine" and online at www.scholastic.com, the article also touts Zoo School as being "one of three truly innovative schools in Grand Rapids" citing Blandford School and the 6th Grade Center for Economicology at City.
"We already knew Zoo, Blandford, and the Center for Economicology were cool schools, but it's certainly nice to have an independent national magazine agree with us," said Teresa Weatherall Neal. "Congratulations to all the students and teachers over the years who have made these schools what they are today!"
GRPS has scheduled a media availability with Zoo School teachers John Fordney and Dennis Kretschman for Tuesday, August 28, 2012 from 12:15pm to 1:00pm at Zoo School (1300 W. Fulton St / South Side of Zoo Administration Building).
GRPS officials said they are gearing up for the expansion of the "We Are GR" campaign to include the Scholastic announcement.
"U.S. News & World Report showed we are home to one of the top performing schools in Michigan – City High. Then, the Mackinac Center ranked four of our high schools among the top ten in Kent County. Now it's time for the billboard and advertisements touting the fact that we are home to one of the coolest schools in America," said John Helmholdt, Director of Communications & External Affairs.
