This spring the Grand Rapids Public Schools and the Grand Rapids Track Club will be providing four track meets for the any GRPS elementary student. The meets will be held at the newly renovated Houseman Field on May 17, May 24, May 31 and June 6 each beginning at 5:00 p.m. Awards will be given to the top three boys and top three girls in each event for each age division. Age divisions will be K-1, 2-3 and 4-5. The last meet of the year, points will be kept and a team trophy handed out for first, second and third place. Each student participating in the program will receive a t-shirt.
Practice – Foundation of an athlete
Practice will be organized through the mileage/running clubs in the student’s elementary school. The Mileage Clubs should begin either the week of April 25 or May 2. Event instruction for long jump, shot put and relays will be provided in physical education classes. The teachers will also discuss how reaching goals takes determination, dedication and discipline and how development of this skill can effect their academic achievement.
Cost of the Program
The cost of the program will be $20 per child. Monies will be collected by the main office at each school until May 2. If more than one child participates from a family, the registration fee is $16 per child and no family will be charged more than $48. Checks should be made payable to the Grand Rapids Track Club. Admission to the spring elementary meets will be free for all spectators.
Transportation
Transportation to and from meets will be done through school buses. Based on an estimate of participation, one bus will cover two-three schools. Schools can also have parents car pool if that is determined to be easier.

This Saturday January 29th marks the beginning of the Annual All-City 3rd/4th/5th Grade Instructional Basketball League for the Grand Rapids Public School. During this basketball league the each elementary team will play every Saturday from January 29th through March 19th. The games and mini-clinics will take place at Creston HS, Ottawa Hills HS, and Union HS for the students-athletes within their feeder pattern with instruction by the varsity coaches and players of each particular school. The All-City 3rd 4th & 5th Grade Basketball League’s main purpose is to provide students with a positive and enriching opportunity to participate in basketball. The program intends to provide structured and supervised basketball games and practices.
The philosophy of the All-City 3rd 4th & 5th Grade Basketball League is to promote sportsmanship, fair play and to enhance basketball skills through teamwork and competition. In addition, the league’s premise is to instill the correlation of hard work, self-control and academic effort to being eligible to participate
Goal: To increase the participation levels of student-athletes in the sport of basketball.
Objective: To prepare the student-athletes for the next level of competitive play.
