“Red Out” Basketball Games to Benefit American Heart Association

“Red Out” Basketball Games to Benefit American Heart Association

Ottawa Hills High School’s varsity basketball teams will play against Hastings High School on Friday, February 8, 2013 to raise awareness for the American Heart Association. A middle school game between Alger Middle School and Gerald R. Ford Middle School will take place before the high school games. The games will be the culmination of a week of cardiovascular disease education, and important information about heart disease and stroke, the number one and number three killers of Americans, will be shared with those in attendance.

Union Upsets 9th Ranked Zeeland East

Event Date: January 29, 2013, 7:30pm

Sport: Basketball Varsity Boys

Teams: Zeeland East @ Grand Rapids Union

Away Score: 42

Home Score: 46

Additional Information:
It was a close game throughout. Union led by 6 points with 2:07 left in the 4th. Zeeland E tied the game at 42 with :10 sec. remaining in the 4th. Then come Jalen Arnold with a two hand monster dunk that broke the tie. Union won the contest against Zeeland East ranked 9rh in the state 46-42.

Shatoya Likely to be inducted to the Billiken Hall of Fame

February 15, 2013, Central High alumni and Ottawa Hills coach, Shatoya Likely is being inducted into St. Louis University’s Sports Hall of Fame. Likely graduated from Central High School in 1994 and received a four year basketball scholarship to attend St. Louis University.
 
Likely is the all-time leading scorer in SLU Billikens women’s basketball history. From 1994-1998 she averaged 14.3 points per game, with an overall total of 1,545 points. She was the leading scorer in three of her four seasons. She scored at least 346 points in all four campaigns. Likely ranks third on the Billikens’ career 3-pointers list scoring 151 three-point shots. She also ranks seventh in free throws, with 256 free throws made. In addition, she had 294 assists and 151 steals. During Likely’s SLU basketball history her team made all conference.
 
Likely graduated in May 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and has been coaching basketball for the past 14 years. She is currently coaching the Ottawa Hills girl’s Varsity team. Her dream is to see her girls graduate from high school and go on to the next level and play college basketball, as she did. Congratulations Shatoya!

Ottawa Hills Hosting MLK/Floyd Mayweather Classic

 Ottawa Hills High School Athletics is hosting the first annual Martin Luther King/Floyd Mayweather Classic on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Ottawa Hills High School gymnasium. The games will feature some of the top talent and teams from Michigan and the Chicago area.

Cliff Alexander (6’10 forward/center) – Chicago Curie; Ranked #4 (5 star) nationally for the class of 2014 by Rivals.com. He has scholarship offers from several schools including Kentucky, Michigan State, Kansas, and Ohio State.

 Trevor Manuel (6’9 forward/center) – Lansing Sexton: This top rated sophomore in the state of Michigan has scholarship offers from Michigan State and Providence.

 Jalen Hayes (6’7 forward) – Lansing Sexton: Hayes has committed to Oakland University.

 Tyquone Greer (6’5 guard) – Chicago Orr: One of the top guards for the class of 2014 and Rivals 4-star prospect. He has scholarship offers from Depaul and Providence.

 OTHER NOTABLE PLAYERS:
