Riverside and Alger rival lives up to expectations

Riverside and Alger’s girls basketball teams were on fire all night as the game came down to the last two seconds. Riverside 8th grader, Markayla Vander, sunk a free throw to win the game in closing seconds to keep her team undefeated. The team celebrated the win, but it was an effort from all grade levels and both schools that sent everyone home victorious. Riverside will travel down Fuller Ave  to take on City Middle on Wednesday at 4:00pm.

All Stars Recognized at Board Meeting

All Stars Recognized at Board Meeting

The 8th grade boys basketball team from Alger Middle School was recognized at last evening’s board meeting. District athletic director Kurt Johnson, along with the Board of Education acknowledged and congratulated the young men on both their academic and athletic achievements through out this season. The All Stars finished the season completely undefeated , taking home the title and trophy of City Champions.

Coach Steve Rambus and athletic director Vincent Mayfield both shared the importance that the Ottawa Hills Varsity coach Van Mayfield played in their season. More collaboration between high school coaches and their feeder pattern middle school coaches will continue to bridge the gap between the levels and provide better experiences for the lower levels. Teams will be even more prepared for the expectations that await them as they move on from middle to high school.
