Senita Lenear is an alumnus of Riverside Elementary School, Riverside Junior High, and a graduate of Creston High School. She is also a summa cum laude graduate of Cornerstone University, with a Bachelor's in Business Management and a minor in Ministry Leadership.
Senita is married to Dallas Lenear who serves as Executive Pastor at New Hope Baptist Church in Grand Rapids. Senita is the parent of a recent graduate from Grand Rapids Montessori High. She is an active member of New Hope Baptist Church. She is the founder of the "My Body is a Temple" program, which helps teens and young adults to discover the benefits of sexual abstinence before marriage.
Senita was appointed to the GRPS Board of Education in October 2007 and served through the end of June 2008 to fill the remaining year after the post was left vacant by former Board member James Rinck. During this tenure, she learned that tough decisions have to be made to successfully impact the educational experience for GRPS students.
Senita is also on the Board of Directors for the Student Advancement Foundation, a non-profit organization designed to assist with funding programs to meet the needs of the Grand Rapids Public School students. Senita is also a volunteer for multiple organizations, such as the YWCA, Baxter Community Center, and the Grand Rapids African-American Health Institute, to name a few. She has also served as past President of the Abundant Life Ministries.
Senita Lenear recently resigned after working over 14 years with Blue Cross Blue Shield/ Blue Care Network of Michigan. Through her work with the Blues, Senita was able to gain professional business experience that has stimulated creative and innovative thinking, teamwork, professionalism, problem-solving, and making tough decisions during tough times. Senita has worked in several departments and has gained community relations, labor relations, human resources, management, fiscal responsibility, employee relations, media relations, operations leadership, training & development, and quality review & performance experience that will prove to be beneficial as she's serving on the GRPS Board of Education.
Senita believes the community's future leaders deserve an advocate for their success and the faculty requires support and tools to successfully meet the needs of State and Federal regulations. She understands those needs and is making the best decisions with the resources entrusted to the Board by its constituents. Senita's main focus is on building student achievement!
Senita currently serves as President of the Board. She is a member of the Executive and Finance Committees as well as co-chairperson of the City-Board Liaison Committee. She also serves on the Board of the G.R. Student Advancement Foundation.
